Want to be a VACC Board member? February 05, 2012 The VACC is putting out a call for new Board member candidates! Elections will be held at the AGM this April. We're especially looking for diversity (by gender, age range, region, etc.); strong skills and experience in fundraising as well as Human Resources is sought. VACC North Shore successful in map grant January 30, 2012 Congratulations to our North Shore VACC committee! MEC granted them $14,000 for pocket map of North Shore cycling routes. Wahl points out that all three municipalities support the bike map project and said it's an excellent example of how citizen groups, businesses and municipal governments can work together. The North Shore committee is made up of 10 members who live in different areas but all share a similar passion for cycling. Residents have until the end of February to submit their routes and the map is expected to be ready by May or June. Email your favourite route to northshorebikemap@gmail.com

Surrey's Most Bike-able Building Announced! December 26, 2011 In a pilot project with the City of Surrey, four buildings were assessed for end of trip bicycle facilities, with the City Centre Library coming out on top. Some of the assessed factors include:
The Bike-able Building assessments use a points-based system to understand where a building stands in terms of bike-friendliness, and then recommendations are made on the most high impact changes to improve the number of people cycling to work or shop. In 2012, the VACC will be offering this service across the region. |

Updated Surrey Cycling Network December 01, 2011 The City of Surrey has made a number of improvements to the cycling network in 2011. They are currently updating their Cycling Plan and are asking for your input on how to make Surrey a better place to bike. Helmet Laws Make the Headlines Again October 15, 2011 A recent court case challenging BC's helmet law has opened up debate on the topic. The VACC supports and encourages the use of helmets by cyclists of all ages, but also recognizes an adult’s right to make their own choice. The VACC believes that the over-emphasis of helmet use is detrimental to addressing important cycling safety issues.
